After 17 years of practicing traditional, western medicine, a few things have become obvious to me…
Things like broken bones, lacerations, trauma, heart attacks, and others are taken care of quite nicely by traditional medicine. However, prevention of diseases, management of weight, sleep issues, cholesterol, heart disease, depression, arthritis, cancer, metabolic syndrome, headaches, stress, digestion, chronic fatigue, and many more problems are poorly dealt with by the traditional focus on symptoms rather than causes.
I would be honored to serve you in your quest to optimize health and live a long and quality life reaching your body’s highest potential for wellbeing! Mark Holthouse M.D.

DEFINING INTEGRATIVE MEDICINE
Integrative Medicine is a comprehensive form of medical care delivered by primary care medical providers that are dually trained in both Eastern and Western Medicine. Our patients are evaluated as whole living systems, which includes body, mind and spirit. Being able to merge the two systems gives us an advantage in preventing, diagnosing and treating illness.
The following is a brief description of some of the common modalities employed at our clinic.
ACUPUNCTURE:
This system of treatment employs very thin needles to stimulate specific points the nervous systems to secrete neurochemicals such as endorphins, cortisone and other substances to stop pain, and rehabilitate damaged tissues. It is also very effective in rebalancing the hormonal system and bringing a lasting sense of well-being. All of these effects are well support by current scientific literature and 5000 years of Chinese Medical history. In ancient times it was said to move stagnant energy of the meridians can cure and prevent disease. For more information please see our special handout on this topic.
ACUPRESSURE & TUI NA
These are therapeutic massage systems that include techniques for soft tissue injury, Osteopathic adjustments, energetic imbalances, and stress release. In addition, family members of patients may be taught the basic techniques to be applied at home for improved healing outcome.
TAI CHI-CHI GUNG
These are movement, breathing, and meditative arts. They are characterized by slow, graceful movements, specialized breathing, and visualization techniques that benefit the functioning of the body’s major systems. Many patients find their mood, blood pressure, energy, and concentration significantly improved. Patients experience increased flexibility, increased strength and decreased pain. These arts promote an overall sense of well-being.
CHINESE HERBOLOGY
The Chinese use methods of combining herbs for treatment of disease, dysfunction, pain and prevention of these. The advantage of using this art is that the patient can be more effectively treated with the combination of herbs rather than the limited European style of single herb treatment. Additionally, botanical substances have both medicinal effects and adverse side effects so it important to have a clinician well trained in their administration to avoid the risks and maximize the benefits.
NUTRITION
We offer traditional nutritional consultation to aid in treatment of disease and weight management. Meal plans with the correct balance of protein, carbs and fat, and guidance with nutritional supplements such as vitamins, minerals and other nutraceutical elements is given. Dietary therapy based on Chinese Medical theory is also available.
WESTERN MEDICAL DIAGNOSTICS AND TREATMENT
We utilize the most modern and appropriate lab and imagining tests available for diagnosis. If the need arises, referrals to other medical specialist can be made. If needed pharmaceutical medicines or office injections, and minor surgery administered by us too
